Welcome to Troop 50. We believe in building more than just campfires; we build character. By following the Scouting America mission, we provide a safe, fun, and challenging environment where Kansas City youth grow into the leaders of tomorrow.
Troop 50 has been serving the Kansas City community for over 100 years. We attend the H. Roe Bartle Summer Camp every year. We meet every Monday evening 7pm-8:30pm at Keystone United Methodist Church.
We are a Scout-Led troop. This means that our Scouts direct the flow of our activities. Scouts are divided in to small teams (Patrols) where they work together and take turns leading. Most skills are either self or peer taught, with a small percentage of parent influence.
Our troop does one outing per month (typically an overnight campout) of 1 or 2 nights on the weekend. We believe in the use of an outdoor classroom. Nature is where the real learning happens - from fire safety to leadership under pressure.
Scout Oath: On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
Scout Law: A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
Scout Mission: The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

Class A (officially known as the "Field Uniform") uniform is the button up tan shirt with patches, troop neckerchief with woggle, olive green scout pants/shorts, belt, and socks. Troop neckerchief with woggle, olive green scout pants/shorts, belt, and socks are optional for Troop 50.
The Class A uniform is worn to meetings, Scoutmaster Conferences, Board of Review, and any ceremonies.
The tan shirt should always be tucked in and orderly.
Shoes: Tennis shoes may be worn to Scout Meetings, at Summer Camp, and on warm weather campouts. Each Scout should possess a sturdy pair of outdoor shoes, which are suitable for rough use and for hiking. Shoes should be large enough to wear a thick wool sock over a thin wicking sock (polypropylene, silk, wool, etc.). Two socks serve to cushion the foot and will help reduce the possibility of blistering. Shoes should be waterproofed and weather appropriate.
Class B (officially known as the "Activity Uniform") is a troop T-shirt with Troop 50 bulldog logo, or any other Boy Scout themed shirt.
The troop has a uniform closet with hand me down uniform items.
In the world of Scouting, we often talk about "Scout-Led" troops (Troop 50 is Scout-Led). This can be a transition for parents who are used to being over-involved or "helicopter parents".
We encourage parents to be "Consultants" rather than "Managers." Let the Scout fail in a safe environment (like forgetting a fork or burning a pancake)—it’s how they learn leadership and self-reliance!
